The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) College of Nursing (CON) held its 17th Annual Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony on February 27, 2025, at the university’s Mini-Convention Hall.

The ceremony, led by newly designated dean Dr. Zuzette Catabona, marked a milestone for 236 second-year student nurses as they formally began their journey into the profession.
University President Dr. Rhodora Jugo addressed the students, emphasizing the dedication and excellence expected in the nursing field. “Each of you is a Nightingale in the making, and our midst is a perfect example of such dedication and excellence,” she said.

The ceremony’s guest speaker, Dr. Jean Guillasper, NEUST Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, highlighted the critical role of nurses in addressing the healthcare workforce shortage and their contributions to strengthening the healthcare system, economic growth, and international collaboration. “Nurses are the heart of healthcare, and their impact reaches far beyond hospital walls,” she stated.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Feliciana Jacoba led the Offer of Dedication, urging students to uphold integrity, empathy, and excellence in their profession.
The ceremony also featured the symbolic lighting of the ceremonial candle, led by this year’s Florence Nightingale, Ashley Sophia Mae Engracia, who placed sixth in the November 2024 Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination.

NEUST reaffirmed its commitment to producing skilled and compassionate nurses through quality education and training, preparing students to serve both local and global communities.
