NEUST to offer Doctor of Medicine for AY 2025-2026

NEUST is poised to make history once again as the first state university in Nueva Ecija to offer medical education, following the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) approval to establish its College of Medicine, with the pioneering batch of students set to begin in Academic Year 2025–2026.

The application of NEUST for the Government Authority to operate the 1st and 2nd year levels of the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Program was approved by CHED per Commission en Banc (CEB) Resolution No. 386-2025, dated May 13, 2025.

University President’s Vision

University President Dr. Rhodora Jugo said that the approval of the College of Medicine is a celebration of progress and purpose.

“With firm resolve, NEUST looks ahead to building a medical program that equips future doctors with knowledge and skill and also inspires them to serve with excellence, empathy, and a deep commitment to nation-building,” said President Jugo.

“As we always say, at NEUST, we continue to nourish the mind, nurture the heart, and lead the future, and this time, through our College of Medicine Program,” the President said.

The Committee on the Establishment of the College of Medicine is composed of its head, Dr. Margarita Belinda Gamilla, University Physician; and members VPAA Feliciana Jacoba; Dr. Jean Guillasper, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training; Lorna Ejar, Budget Officer IV; Dr. Nancy Joy Mangansat, Director of Curriculum Development and Evaluation; Dr. Mario Abesamis, Jr., Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); and Dr. Danilet Mendoza, CAS faculty.

Enhancing Medical Education Accessibility

The approval aligns with the objectives of Republic Act No. 11509, known as the “Doktor Para sa Bayan Act,” which aims to increase the number of physicians in underserved areas by providing scholarships and return service agreements to medical students.

By launching its medical program, NEUST contributes to this national initiative, offering opportunities for aspiring doctors from Nueva Ecija and nearby provinces, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, to pursue medical education.

Rigorous Evaluation and Compliance

Before granting approval, the CHEDRO3 Regional Quality Assurance Team and the Technical Panel for Medical Education conducted on April 10, 2025, a comprehensive evaluation of NEUST’s proposal, assessing key areas such as curriculum design, faculty qualifications, laboratory facilities, and affiliations with healthcare institutions.

The CHED-RQAT-TPME was composed of Dr. Queenie Dyan Raagas, Dr. Clarita Maano, Dr. Leilani Nicodemus, Dr. Zorayda Leopando, Ms. Shiela Jalbuena, and Mr. Francis De Guzman.

The University’s adherence to CHED-RQAT-TPME’s standards and its commitment to quality medical education were pivotal in securing the endorsement.

Application and Admission Details

The application procedures, admission requirements, and scholarship opportunities for prospective students interested in enrolling in the Doctor of Medicine shall be posted on NEUST’s official Facebook page and website.

The University also encourages applications from individuals committed to serving in areas with limited access to healthcare services.
