In line with its commitment to academic excellence and faculty development, the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) College of Medicine (COM) conducted a faculty development planning workshop on June 21, 2025, at the College of Arts and Sciences AVR, NEUST Gen. Tinio Street Campus.
The workshop aimed to strengthen faculty competencies in curriculum planning, teaching methodologies, and instructional design, ensuring alignment with national standards in medical education.
In her message, University President Dr. Rhodora J. Jugo underscored the profound purpose of the activity. βWe got together for this planning workshop. We are not just making health plans. We are preparing a home for future doctors to be shaped. We are building something from the ground up, and that takes not only skill, but heart,β she said.
COM Dean Dr. Edgardo Ortiz presented the collegeβs academic priorities and strategic direction, encouraging a collaborative and forward-thinking approach to shaping NEUSTβs emerging medical program.
Meanwhile, NEUST Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Feliciana Jacoba commended the faculty for their dedication and emphasized the importance of continuous academic alignment and innovation in medical education.
The training was facilitated by Dr. Erlyn Sana and Dr. Melflor Atienza of the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTCHP), who led discussions on the roles and responsibilities of medical educators, foundational principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and strategies for curriculum development.
Participants engaged in in-depth sessions on formulating learning outcomes, organizing course content, incorporating ICT in instruction, and adapting teaching-learning strategies across classroom and clinical settings.
Hands-on activities enabled faculty members to apply their learnings by drafting course plans, aligning instructional tools with real-life scenarios, and integrating pedagogical components into cohesive modules.
The workshop concluded with a plenary sharing session, highlighting the commitment of the academic community to deliver learner-centered, ethical, and outcomes-driven medical education.
