Lorenz Estolano, President of the Environmental Science Society (ESS), was elected FUSO President, while Rainier Castillo, President of the HTM Events Society, was elected Vice President of the Federation of University Student Organizations (FUSO) during its orientation and election for the academic year 2025โ2026, conducted on July 18 at the NEUST Mini Convention Center, Sumacab Campus.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Quijano, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, expressed her support for student leadership.
โMagandang araw, mga student leaders. Nakakatuwang makita ang inyong dedication at passion. Palaging bukas ang pinto ng OSAS para suportahan kayo,โ she said.
This was followed by the orientation proper led by Dr. Eminiano Manuzon, Adviser of the University Student Government, where he discussed the important matters to be accomplished by all organizations under FUSO.
Meanwhile, Engr. Feliciana Jacoba, Vice President for Academic Affairs, offered firm support to all student leaders, saying, โWalang araw, walang gabi. Mag-message lang kayo. Palagi lang bukas ang office ng Academic Affairs para sa inyo. Kung walang studyante, walang NEUST. We have to serve the students to give you the best education that you deserve.โ
Estolano and Castillo ran unopposed and secured their positions with ease.
Estolano shared his plans to make the FUSO Fiesta a yearly tradition and to start Cluster Events for different organization sectors, and aims to launch the โGawad Parangal Para sa Natatanging Lider-Estudyanteโ, which will recognize outstanding student leaders.
Outgoing FUSO President Joselle Sumera looked back on her term and expressed her trust in the new officers. She said the FUSO Fiesta was her proudest legacy and hoped for a more inclusive and vibrant academic year.
The program ended with a message from Dr. Racquel L. Pula, Head of the Office of Student Organization, Activities, and Development (OSOAD), praising the student leaders for their efforts and encouraged them to lead with honesty and purpose.
