Several student publications of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) brought pride to the campus as they dominated separate regional and national journalism competitions in late August, clinching multiple awards that highlighted their skills and excellence.

Leading the pack for the tertiary level is The Blaze, the official student publication of NEUST, with 31 awards, together with Anihan of NEUST San Isidro Campus, with 13 awards; The Boulders of NEUST Gabaldon Campus with four (4) awards at the 4th Young Journalists Press Freedom Congress (YJPFC) held at Tarlac State University โ€“ Lucinda Campus on August 29, 2025.

Meanwhile, for the secondary level, The Core, the official publication of NEUST Laboratory High School (LHS), bagged 13 awards, while Anihan of NEUST San Isidro Campus LHS earned three (3) awards at the 26th Word Cup National Journalism Conference and Contest in Tagaytay City from August 29 to 31

NEUST’s regional performance was highlighted by a dominant showing from The Blaze, which captured four major awards: 1st Place in A-List Social Media, 1st Place in A-List News Broadcast Production, 2nd Place in A-List Mobile Journalism, and 9th Place in A-List E-Magazine. The publication also garnered an additional 25 individual and group category awards.

Moreover, two (2) journalists from The Blaze were named Outstanding Tertiary Campus Journalists in Central Luzon (OTCJ): former Editor-in-Chief John Darwin Arenas and Layout and Design Head Russel Jhon Guibani.

Adding to the university’s accolades, Anihan earned an overall 9th Place in A-List Best Social Media Page and 10th Place in A-List Best News Broadcast Productions while The Boulders won 6th Place in A-List Best Mobile Journalism Video and other awards in e-magazine and socmed categories.

The event, themed “Burning Ink: Young Journalists as Torchbearers of Truth,” was organized by the Association of Tertiary School Paper Advisers of Region III (ATSPAR III) and the Young Journalists Association of Region III (YJAR III), gathering 37 student publications from across Central Luzon.

Marking only its second appearance at the national tilt, The Core won one (1) gold medal, six (6) silvers, two (2) bronzes, and four (4) honorable and special citations.

On the other hand, Anihan made a strong debut at the national competition after clinching three individual awards.

The combined achievements of The Core and Anihan delegates earned NEUST the Silver Institutional Award at the national competition.
