The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), through its Innovation Management Office (IMO), in collaboration with the Central Luzon Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development Consortium (CLIEERDEC), conducted a three-day Advanced Regional Patent Training from September 3 to 5, 2025, at the Wright Hall, Mini Convention Center, NEUST Sumacab Campus.
The training aimed to equip researchers and teachers with the skills to drive innovation, protect original works, and strengthen schools and universities as vital contributors to national development.
In her message, Dr. Jean Guillasper, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, emphasized the importance of the training in addressing emerging challenges in intellectual property management.
βThis will enhance our skills in drafting patents and address the emerging challenges in intellectual property management. This is where we can start drafting our patents, whether for utility models or other innovations,β she said.
Meanwhile, NEUST President Dr. Rhodora emphasized the significance of the training in cultivating a culture of innovation within the region, stating, βThis training is more than just an ordinary workshopβit is a celebration of the bright ideas emerging from Central Luzon. Together, let us transform these breakthroughs into patents, and patents into meaningful progress.β
The three-day training was facilitated by Engr. Chamlette D. Garcia, Director III, and Mr. Dindo O. Dumali, Intellectual Property Specialist III from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Documentation, Information, and Technology Transfer Bureau.
They facilitated discussions on the overview of the IP system, prior art tools, strategies and applications, prior art analysis, and invention spotting for chemical and mechanical fields; sessions also covered claim drafting and drafting claims for mechanical and chemical inventions, each concluding with hands-on workshops.
The event, attended by various faculty from NEUST and other schools across the region, concluded with a message from CLIEERDEC Director Dr. Marilene Hipolito, who expressed hope that the training would lead to increased patent filings from institutions in the region and granted participants one month to complete and submit their patent applications.
