The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), through the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) and the National Service Training Program (NSTP), spearheaded the Campus Awareness for Resilience and Empowerment (CARE) 2025 with the theme “Clear Minds, Strong Hearts: The Path to a Drug-Free University” on September 13, 2025, at the NEUST Sumacab Campus Mini Convention.
In her message, University President Dr. Rhodora Jugo reminded the youth that fighting illegal drugs is a moral and social duty.
“It is NEUST’s mission to mold students who are not only intellectually bright but also morally upright, and that is why I remind you that the fight against illegal drugs is not only the duty of the government but also a moral and social duty of every youth,” she said.
The lecture proper was led by PLTCOL. Ariel Ventura Enriquez, NEPPO Chief of the Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit, as he discussed the difference between legal and illegal drugs and explained their harmful effects.
“Legal drugs are used para sa tamang gamutan, pero ang illegal drugs ay bawal dahil sobrang harmful sa katawan at isipan, at kahit once lang subukan, puwede nang magdulot ng serious na epekto sa health,” he explained.
He also emphasized the serious consequences under Philippine law and reminded students that one wrong choice can affect their health, future, and freedom.
The lecture was followed by an open forum where participants joined the discussion to highlight their role in spreading awareness and creating peer-led initiatives– stressing the need to build a responsible and vigilant campus culture.
In her closing remarks, OSAS Dean Dr. Ma. Lourdes Quijano urged students to embody resilience and empowerment, stressing that the campaign’s success depends on the collective will of the university community.
The event was attended by ROTC and NSTP students, reaffirming NEUST’s commitment to creating a safe and drug-free academic environment.
