NEUST advances integration of microcredentials into university system

In a significant step toward a more responsive higher education system, the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) held a three-day capability-building workshop titled “Integrating Microcredentials into the NEUST Landscape: Design, Delivery, and Policy Directions” from September 30 to October 2, 2025, at the Mini-Convention Center, Sumacab Campus.

Conducted in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (UPLB OIDHE), the workshop equipped NEUST academic personnel with the foundational concepts and practical tools for implementing microcredentials, including quality assurance mechanisms, proposal design, competency-based syllabus development, and relevant policy frameworks.

In her message, NEUST President Dr. Rhodora Jugo characterized the initiative as a “collective journey towards educational excellence and innovation,” designed to “unlock new pathways for learning, tailored to the evolving needs of our society and our industry.”

The first segment, facilitated by Dr. Rufo Gil Albor of UPLB OIDHE and co-facilitated by Dr. Reniel Pamplona, focused on the practical aspects of creating microcredential programs and culminated in team presentations and critiques to refine the proposed outputs.

A subsequent session held via Zoom on October 2, featuring a lecture by Dr. Angelica Cortez—a member of the Commission on Higher Education Technical Working Group on Microcredentials and a faculty member at the NEUST College of Education—addressed policy implementation through her presentation titled “Implementing Microcredentials: From Policy Frameworks to Application Requirements.”

This university-wide initiative, spearheaded by the NEUST Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs under Dr. Feliciana Jacoba, was executed through the coordinated efforts of the Office of Curriculum Development and Evaluation, led by Dr. Nancy Joy Mangansat, and the Learning and Development Unit, headed by Dr. Ofelia Bawan.
