The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) hosted a benchmarking activity for the Instituto de San Martin of Bulacan at its General Tinio Street and Sumacab campuses on January 16, 2026.

The activity focused on the agriculture curriculum of Instituto de San Martín, which aims to develop competencies in food production, income generation, environmental protection, and hands-on farming through the use of machinery and agricultural technologies.

The 32-member delegation, led by Engr. Severino Santos, was welcomed by Dr. Jean Guillasper, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, and Atty. Bembol Castillo, Vice President for Administration, Business, and Finance.

They were accompanied by Dr. Marlon Torres, Director of the NEUST Management Information System, who facilitated the benchmarking activities at both campuses.

At the General Tinio Street Campus, the visitors toured the biology, chemistry, and food processing laboratories of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) under the guidance of College Dean Dr. Mario Abesamis and faculty members, observing reference models for laboratory-based instruction, scientific analysis, and value-adding processes in agricultural education.

The group then proceeded to the Sumacab Campus, where they visited the Metal and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) to explore facilities and equipment that can be used for farm mechanization, fabrication, and the application of engineering technologies in agriculture. They were accommodated by the center’s head, Engr. Nathaniel Oliveros.

The delegation also visited the University Techno Hub and Data Center, where Dr. Torres led a tour of the computer laboratories, including the Mac and Animation labs, and demonstrated the role of digital tools, data systems, and technology integration in modern agricultural management and education.

Their final stop was the University Museum, where Ar. Ofelia Bawan welcomed them. The group explored exhibits on Nueva Ecija history and culture, NEUST memorabilia and archives, local flora and fauna, and works by NEUST students and faculty.

Instituto de San Martin is an in-house school operated by Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin De Porres, Inc., a non-government organization and youth formation center based in Bustos, Bulacan, that provides holistic development programs for orphans, street children, and children from the poorest families.
