The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), conducted a hybrid seminar titled “Understanding the Philippine Financial System” on February 19, 2026, at Nieto Hall, Sumacab Campus.

The seminar was organized by the College of Management and Business Technology in collaboration with the Learning and Development Unit of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) to strengthen financial literacy and broaden participants’ understanding of the structure, supervision, and reform initiatives of the Philippine financial system.

Atty. Bembol Castillo, Vice President for Administration, Business, and Finance, delivered a message encouraging participants to recognize the value of public service and financial awareness, stating, “Mas dapat na pumasok tayo sa gobyerno…sapagkat naniniwala tayo, on our own little way, we can do changes.”

The lecture on “The Philippine Financial System” was presented by Ms. Maria Merzenaida Donovan, Acting Deputy Director of the Central Office of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Mr. Darwin Lucela, Bank Officer IV of the Supervisory Policy and Research Department of the BSP Central Office.

The speakers discussed the overview of the Philippine financial system, financial supervision in the Philippines, and key points of the BSP Financial Sector Reform Agenda.

Participants included selected faculty members and non-teaching personnel from various departments and campuses, Business Administration students, and representatives from other universities and institutions who joined online.

An open forum followed the presentations, allowing participants to raise questions and discuss topics related to financial awareness, decision-making, and risk protection.

Ms. Jenna Kristel Iluste, Head of HRMO, delivered the closing message and noted that the information shared during the seminar extends beyond classroom discussions and can be applied in daily responsibilities.

The initiative reflects NEUST’s continued efforts to provide relevant learning engagements, underscoring the seminar’s significance in equipping participants with practical knowledge of the Philippine financial system that can inform their academic work, professional responsibilities, and personal financial decisions.
