Two (2) Administrative Council members of NEUST fortified their leadership skills after joining the second batch of the Higher Education Leadership Mentoring Fellowship Program (HELM) held at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños (UPLB) from March 31 to April 11, 2025.

Dr. Kenneth Armas, Director of the Planning and Development Office, and Dr. Marilene Hipolito, Director of the Research Services Department, were accepted into the program that aims to provide fellows with an immersive experience in UPLB, exposing them to the university’s best practices and leadership approaches.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Armas emphasized the program’s role in shaping forward-thinking strategies.

“The fellowship has given us invaluable insights that will definitely enrich NEUST’s efforts in strategic planning and research development,” said Director Armas.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hipolito highlighted the transformative impact of leadership mentoring on research and academic excellence.

“Being part of HELMFP was both inspiring and empowering—it opened new doors for collaboration, innovation, and a renewed sense of purpose as a research leader,” said Director Hipolito.

According to University President Dr. Rhodora Jugo, NEUST will continue to send participants in the HELM program to engage in innovative leadership practices and institutional development strategies.

“It’s been a challenge to keep up with their newfound enthusiasm!” said President Jugo. “We look forward to continued collaboration and sending more of our officials to experience the magic of HELM.”

The program is spearheaded by UPLB’s Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE).
