“Education is one of the greatest legacies that we can offer to the next generation. At the center of that legacy are our teachers, whose influence extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom. It is our prayer that this undertaking becomes another meaningful step toward advancing that legacy.”

This was the message of NEUST President Dr. Rhodora Jugo during the commencement of the Teacher Education Center of Excellence (COE) Identification and Designation Field Visit on May 21, 2026, at the Mini Convention Center, NEUST Sumacab Campus.

The evaluation, conducted by the Teacher Education Council (TEC), aims to determine whether teacher education institutions continue to meet the standards for Centers of Excellence in instruction, research, extension services, faculty qualifications, student support, and graduate outcomes.

In line with Republic Act No. 11713, the assessment also covers the validation of institutional practices, resources, and programs supporting quality teacher education and the professional preparation of future educators.

As part of the process, the validation covers the review of documentary requirements, inspection of facilities, evaluation of instructional practices and curriculum implementation, and interviews with faculty members and students to verify compliance with TEC standards.

Three evaluators from the Teacher Education Council, led by Karla Christel Borja, discussed the evaluation process and expressed optimism for the activity, stating, “We are honored to be here and look forward to a productive and collaborative field visit.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Jo Neil Peria expressed gratitude to the college community and the university administration for their continued support in the college’s pursuit of the COE designation.

The opening program was attended by members of the NEUST Administrative Council, faculty, and students of the College of Education.

Following the initial activities, the validation process will continue until May 22, 2026, with further interviews, inspections, and evaluation activities.

“More than compliance with standards, this visit reflects our sincere desire to honor the noble responsibility of preparing future educators who will continue inspiring lives and shaping the future of our country,” President Jugo added, emphasizing the vital role of teachers in shaping lives and communities even beyond the classroom.
