The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology welcomed representatives from the University of Northern Philippines for a benchmarking and validation activity on July 1, 2026 focusing on the university’s implementation and utilization of Scopus access and Scopus AI.
The activity was conducted as part of UNP’s post-qualification process for research discovery and AI-supported academic tools, and it aimed to examine NEUST’s practices in procurement procedures, technical evaluation, database management, and institutional use of research support platforms.
Representing the University of Northern Philippines were Atty. Aryan Ceasar Manglapus, BAC Member, Dr. Ace Ferrer, TWG Head for Goods and Services, and Dr. Richard Arruejo, TWG for ICT.
During the activity, the UNP delegation coordinated with NEUST offices and personnel to gather information on the university’s acquisition, implementation, and management of Scopus and Scopus AI.
Dr. Angelo Santos, Head of the Research Publication Office, presented how NEUST utilizes Scopus and Scopus AI in monitoring research publications, improving faculty research productivity, increasing citation visibility, and supporting data-driven research management.
He also discussed the significance of research intelligence platforms in advancing scholarly productivity and strengthening the university’s international research presence.
Dr. Consuelo Estigoy, University Librarian, shared the university’s practices on database accessibility, user assistance, and library support services, while Dr. Egdelly Vitug, Head of the Innovation Management Office, discussed initiatives related to technology-supported research development and innovation.
The UNP representatives were also accompanied by Engr. Joel De Mesa and Ms. Michelle Supeña at the University BAC Office during discussions on procurement processes, technical validation, and implementation support.
The benchmarking visit served as an avenue for knowledge-sharing between higher education institutions on the responsible implementation of research technologies, transparent procurement practices, and the integration of AI-assisted academic tools.
Through the activity, NEUST highlighted its continuing efforts in promoting research excellence, digital innovation, and globally competitive academic and research practices.
