The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), through the Institute of Linguistics and Literature (IOLL) in collaboration with the University Training Department and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) โ Learning and Development Unit, officially launched the AI-Assisted Journal Article Writing and Publication Mentoring Program today, July 16, 2026, at the NEUST Sumacab Campus.
The mentoring program gathered twenty (20) faculty research groups from various NEUST campuses, colleges, and academic disciplines who submitted their research papers for expert mentoring.
The initiative aims to strengthen participants’ scholarly writing and publication competencies through expert-guided mentoring and to promote the ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence in academic research.
In her message, NEUST Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Dr. Jean Guillasper reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing research excellence and increasing the production of quality research publications.
“It is a testament that in this University, we have this commitment to cultivate a vibrant research culture, nurturing innovation, and advancing scholarly excellence,” she said.
Meanwhile, University Training Department Director Dr. Marilou Pascual presented the program overview, objectives, and mentoring framework. She also outlined the program’s structure, expectations, and collaborative approach, emphasizing its goal of helping participants enhance the quality and publishability of their research manuscripts through sustained mentorship.
Serving as mentors for the program are Dr. Feorillo Demeterio, Dr. Christian Gopez, and Mr. Jay Israel De Leon from De La Salle University; Dr. Wilma Maningas Cruz of Pampanga State University, who joined virtually; and Dr. Joven Makiling of the University of Makati, who also participated online.
Sharing the success stories of research papers they had previously mentored, the mentors expressed their enthusiasm and optimism about producing more publishable studies with NEUST researchers.
โCommitted kami. Nagpunta kami rito, babalik kami, and we are expecting na magsu-submit tayo [ng paper] sabay-sabay,โ he expressed as he oriented the participants on the mentoring process and the expectations for the program.
The succeeding mentoring sessions are scheduled on July 17, 24, and 31, and August 7 and 14, 2026, covering the entire journal writing processโfrom aligning the research title and problem statement to refining the methodology, results, and discussionโthrough intensive, mentor-led consultations designed to prepare participants for publication.
Concluding the opening program, Institute of Linguistics and Literature Director Dr. Rommel Espejo Jr. underscored the importance of maximizing the opportunity provided by the University to further enhance the research and publication competencies of faculty members through expert mentorship.
“Huwag nating sayangin ang pagkakataon na ibinigay sa atin ng University. Samantalahin natin ang pagkakataong ito upang higit pang mapaunlad ang ating mga pananaliksik at maging handa sa paglalathala,” he emphasized.
Through this initiative, NEUST continues to strengthen its research culture by equipping faculty members with the knowledge, skills, and mentorship necessary to produce high-quality, publishable research that contributes to academic excellence and societal development.
