To strengthen financial literacy and promote financial security among its employees, the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), through the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) and the Learning and Development Unit, in partnership with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), conducted the “Fraud Awareness and All About Savings” webinar on July 24, 2026.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Feliciana Jacoba, Vice President for Research, Extension and Training Dr. Jean Guillasper, and SUC Vice President III Atty. Bembol Castillo delivered their messages of support and emphasized the importance of financial literacy and responsible money management.
The VPs likewise expressed their appreciation to BPI for sharing valuable knowledge that will help NEUST employees make informed financial decisions and cultivate the habit of saving.
The webinar aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge of financial management and help employees become financially informed, prepared, and secure.
In her message, Ms. Ma. Angeline Rualo of BPI underscored that financial awareness goes beyond simply earning money, highlighting the importance of making wise financial decisions that contribute to long-term stability and security.
βAng financial awareness ay hindi lamang tungkol sa pag-iipon ng pera; ito ay tungkol sa pagkakaroon ng tamang kaalaman, kumpiyansa, at disiplina sa paggawa ng matalinong financial decisions,β she said.
The learning session featured discussions on savings, the different life stages of money, and financial planning, presented by Ms. Gladys Malapo of the BPI Foundation, BPI’s social development arm.
Meanwhile, Mr. Keno Timbang, Mr. Robert Isidro, Ms. Patricia Cano, and Ms. Angelie Beltran discussed practical strategies on how to avoid fraud and online scams, encouraging participants to remain vigilant against evolving financial threats.
To reinforce the lessons, Ms. Reena Dungca facilitated an interactive game where participants identified whether sample text messages were legitimate or fraudulent, allowing them to apply their knowledge in recognizing common scam tactics.
The webinar concluded with an open forum where participants raised questions and sought clarification on various fraud and scam-related concerns, allowing BPI resource speakers to address common schemes, share practical safety tips, and guide participants on protecting personal and financial information from emerging threats.
VP Castillo supplemented the discussion by sharing legal insights on fraud prevention and emphasizing the importance of exercising caution in financial transactions, reinforcing the participants’ understanding of their legal responsibilities and the need to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities.
