The Records Management Office of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) conducted a briefing and workshop on records retention, maintenance, and disposition on October 1, 2026, at NIETO Hall, NEUST Sumacab Campus.
NEUST Vice President for Administration, Business, and Finance, Atty. Bembol Castillo emphasized the importance of proper records management and preservation in ensuring efficient university administration and protecting important institutional documents.
Atty. Castillo acknowledged the role of the Records Management Office and the National Archives of the Philippines in helping NEUST establish proper procedures for the maintenance, retention, and disposition of records while emphasizing the need to adapt to digital and paperless systems and ensure the proper preservation of documents requiring permanent retention.
“An institution that can properly keep records will be easy, and our administration will also be proper,” he said.
Ms. Ehxia Dondonilla, Senior Records Management Analyst of the National Archives of the Philippines, provided an overview of records management and discussed the role of the National Archives in preserving government and historical records.
The resource speaker discussed Republic Act No. 9470, or the National Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007, which provides the legal framework for the management and preservation of government records and archival materials.
Dondonilla also explained the functions and historical development of the National Archives of the Philippines and emphasized its role in safeguarding records with enduring historical and archival value.
“We are the repository of archival records and historical collections,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, Ms. Haziel Orling, Records Management Analyst I of the National Archives of the Philippines, discussed the legal requirements and proper procedures for the disposal of public records under Republic Act No. 9470.
Orling emphasized that public records cannot simply be discarded and that their disposal requires proper written authority and compliance with the guidelines and procedures of the National Archives of the Philippines.
The workshop strengthened NEUST’s commitment to systematic records management, responsible preservation of institutional documents, and compliance with national records management policies as part of effective and accountable university administration.
